Expanding a well-loved library in a tight-knit community
Having designed an earlier building for Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library as well as the city hall neighbouring the Library’s current home, Manasc Isaac has a long history with the city of Beaumont. The Library, facing a space shortage, hired Manasc Isaac to research their options through a feasibility study. We worked with the Library Board, library staff, and the Beaumont Arts Society to understand the complete picture of the Library's space needs and potential partnerships.
Our report showed the best option was to expand the current facility, preparing the Library to meet Beaumont’s needs well into the future while remaining in a building well-loved by this tight-knit community. Our work with the Beaumont Library has led to a longer term relationship in which we have participated in their career fair for two years and continued to keep in touch with the municipal conversations on their library funding.
We were pleased that there is an appetite for growing the Beaumont Library, but we also recognize that tight municipal budgets often mean library expansions cannot happen immediately. Our discussions with the Beaumont Arts Society and the Library showed us that Beaumont's cultural scene is strong and growing, and that its facilities need to catch up to continue serving the population into the future.
