HISTORY

Originally settled as a French farming town, Beaumont is a city within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region that is well-known for its primarily French-speaking population. The unique architecture of the downtown core is reminiscent of a French village.  Working closely with ISL's planning team we updated the City's Urban Design Guidelines to better reflect their distinctly ‘Beaumont’ character, and create innovative approaches to designing new buildings in the community.

VISION

In our comprehensive community engagement sessions--or charettes--we asked the question: how can the new Beaumont Urban Design Guidelines create an authentic experience for the town of Beaumont, the buildings of Beaumont, and most importantly, the people of Beaumont? Our Design Guidelines acknowledge Beaumont's Francophone legacy, and they give voice to the legacy and cultural influences of the area's Indigenous communities.
