HISTORY

Chestermere is a small city bordering Calgary and Chestermere Lake. The Chestermere Library has long been too small to meet the city’s growing needs, and especially since an annexation in 2007 that increased the population by upwards of 50 000 people. We asked: how might a new library better serve Chestermere’s expanding and diverse population?

VISION

Through comprehensive staff and community engagement sessions, we determined that the success of the Chestermere Library primarily demanded an increase in space for more activities and expanded services. The universally-accessible library is a central hub for fostering strong community connections and relationships and welcomes both long-time residents and newcomers to the city. The envisioned library has a large and varied book collection, space for children’s and adult programming, improved accessibility in the way of shuttle programs and city-wide partnerships, and improved technology options for visitors.
