Métis Crossing Cultural Gathering Centre will focus on celebrating the culture, history, and contributions of Métis people within Canada. The building will mirror core values of the Métis community, which are a part of self-sufficiency, respect of elders, participation of youth and pride in Métis Culture. These values include being part of a model site for renewables and a place to experience and motivate the next generation of entrepreneurs, while also honouring the historic site that plays a central role next to the North Saskatchewan River.

The project will emphasize the connection to place and to the land as well as support an inclusive environment that upholds intimate knowledge of Métis culture and history. Year-round access to the outdoors with integrated design from the inside of the building to the outside is essential to the activities of gathering for groups visiting the Centre. The integration of support systems for interpretive themes and temporary exhibits will also be involved, which upholds the sustainability of Métis culture, values and heritage on the site. Métis Crossing will become a place that every school-aged child visits and where international tourists and new Canadians can learn from Métis people, as well as a renowned place for weddings, family celebrations, conferences and musical festivals. This expansion will embrace the past, while celebrating and sharing the richness of tradition, and will equally reach into the future.
