HISTORY

The Edmonton-based Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW) is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to acknowledge the role, value, and achievement of Indigenous women and support them in their unique journeys. With many chapters across Alberta, the IAAW consulted our team with the long-held vision of an Esquao* Resiliency Centre near Edmonton.

VISION

The IAAW’s core values of support, strength, and integrity for Indigenous women guide the vision for the Resiliency Centre. The Centre will be welcoming to all Indigenous women and their families and will help them to develop increased personal autonomy and resiliency alongside the restoration of their culture and well-being. By utilizing land-based learning, cultural programming, training and other relevant strategies, the Centre will provide an environment for learning, healing, and transition. The women whose lives will be touched by the IAAW will be granted the grace and power to express their Esquao spirit.

*Esquao is the stylized Cree word for "Woman" and is copyrighted.
