HISTORY
Saddle Lake is a First Nations community in central Alberta, located approximately 180 km northeast of the City of Edmonton, 26 km west of the Town of St. Paul and 105 km north of the Town of Vegreville. The Nation is dedicated to improving the well-being and security of its members and providing opportunities for community engagement.
VISION
The Saddle Lake Seniors Residence is an assisted living space that is fun, joyful, vibrant, energized and independent. We employ our hallmark sustainable design strategies, such as east-facing clerestory windows and rain water collection to create an affordable and economically viable residence that is connected to the land, the Saddle Lake community, and to future generations.
CULTIVATING COMMUNITY
The design and site location express the Nation’s respect for and appreciation of nature. The site is enclosed by a dense Aspen forest and enjoys a close proximity to Saddle Lake. All of the planting is native to the area or cultivars of native plants and have cultural significance to the people of Saddle Lake, and which support the spiritual and emotional health of the Elders and residence occupants.
