HISTORY

In 2008, the Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Commission initiated an upgrade of the St. Albert pump station facility, which consisted of two interconnected and aging pump stations.

VISION

The site presents particular challenges to construction: set atop a 17m deep sunken caisson, the sub-soil conditions in the area are poor and unstable, while the high groundwater table makes excavation difficult. Our design response: a circular footprint.

INVITING THE COMMUNITY

As the pump house is located in a residential neighbourhood, we took special care to invite community members and stakeholder groups to accompany us throughout our design process, at one point creating and distributing a 3D fly-through video.
