HISTORY

After many years of lobbying the Alberta government, in March 2021, Athabasca’s ‘Old Brick School’ was officially designated as a provincial historic resource. The Athabasca Public School, though no longer used as a school, has long been a valued resource in Athabasca County. Built in 1914, a lack of necessary building upgrades has rendered the structure largely unused and unoccupied.

VISION

In 2018, our design team was engaged to analyze the existing condition of the structure and to develop a design for a vibrant new Arts and Culture centre to revive all floors of the building. The design upgrade includes a new cafe, teaching kitchen, collaboration office, museum, pottery workshop, and green room space.

A PLACE FOR HISTORY AND CULTURE

Reimagine is excited to take on this exciting project and to breathe new life into this beautiful community hub. The building will also support the neighbouring Nancy Appleby Theatre as a back-of-house for future performances, emphasizing its preeminent position in the Athabasca arts and culture scene!
