REIMAGINE + REFRESH

Edmonton's skyline is full of drab high-rise buildings: many of which date back to the 1970s and 1980s. This cohort of buildings is ripe for renewal, and the owner of these two Edmonton properties approached Reimagine asking for some fresh ideas to reinvigorate their exteriors, prominent landmarks along one of Edmonton's primary entry points, Gateway Boulevard.

CONTEXT

Centre 104 and Clark Builders Place are situated close to one another, along Calgary Trail on Edmonton's south side. This busy thoroughfare sees huge volumes of traffic pass by every hour, but the washed-out and outdated facades of these buildings mean that most people don't even notice them. Reimagine's proposal leverages colour and light to capture the attention and imagination of passers-by, making the buildings attractive, recognizable landmarks.

COLOUR & LIGHT

The design team experimented through various playful, colorful iterations, eventually landing on a theme rooted by the colour red. For Centre 104, red organic forms dot the black-painted facade, while a secondary element of straight vertical LED fins contrast the soft red lines. At night, the LED fins "wake up" and become the prominent feature of the facade, as the red forms fade into the dark. Nearby, Clark Builders Place enjoys an inversion of these colours: during the day, red fins adorn the white building facade, giving way to white organic forms that begin to glow as the sun sets.

The two buildings are now visually compelling, united by their inverted design elements, and under this proposal, they sparkle (and glow) as a jewel in the Group Three Property Management holdings.
