This feasibility study conceptualizes a renovation and expansion of Pincher Creek's existing Municipal Library.

CONTEXT

The Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library is a cherished community institution which has sersved the residents of Pincher Creek and the surrounding district since 1946. Housed within the Pincher Creek Multi-Purpose Facility since 1999, the Library has long been a vital social, educational, and cultural anchor in the community, offering access to collections, technology, and programs that reflect the evolving needs of its patrons.

Situated within a unique civic setting that also accommodates Pincher Creek Swimming Pool and Memorial Community Centre, the Library has the opportunity to strengthen its role as a central, accessible, and flexible community hub. Over the years, the Library has outgrown its current 316 m2 footprint. Accordingly, this study seeks to create additional space, while ensuring accessible, inclusive environments for all community members.

THE STUDY

The proposed expanded Library will be designed to approximately 1,000 m², including the existing space, and will integrate critical functions such as dedicated spaces for children, teens, and community events, enhanced staff support areas including workroom, lounge space, and Library Manager’s office, and performing arts and multipurpose spaces with secure, after-hours access.
