HISTORY
Established in 1905, the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) works on behalf of elected and administrative leaders in urban municipalities, providing solutions and resources for municipal issues and challenges. Their central, prominent location on Saskatchewan Drive in Edmonton reflects the Association’s commitment to their city’s growth and success. The project set a precedent for our firm and the province, as it was the first LEED® certified building in Alberta.
VISION
The old, beautiful brick building that housed the Association was discreetly integrated into the surrounding mature residential neighbourhood. The AUMA required a structural upgrade and expansion that would preserve their sophisticated and elegant aesthetic and also accommodate their organization’s accelerated growth.
A FIRST FOR ALBERTA
In line with our essential commitment to being on the leading edge of sustainable building practices, the AUMA renovation and expansion was the first project in Alberta to be awarded a LEED® certification. Our design team implemented various sustainable strategies, including low-flow plumbing fixtures, a ground-source heating and cooling system, and renewable and locally-sourced materials. The new AUMA building’s energy consumption is an outstanding 55% below a model baseline, and water consumption is 50% less than conventional buildings.
