A coalition including the Conseil scolaire Centre-Est, Conseil de développement économique de l'Alberta, and Fédération des parents francophones de l'Alberta commissioned Reimagine Architects Ltd. to design a new Francophone Daycare. Located adjacent to the existing École Voyageur in Cold Lake, the facility was scaled to accommodate 64 children and 7 staff members within a 463m2 footprint.
The daycare's design embraces 21st-century learning by creating collaborative, innovative spaces that connect children to local and global communities. Architecturally, the building features a unique, snail-inspired shape symbolizing shelter, determined growth, and a secure, home-like sanctuary. The concept also integrates robust sustainable strategies, aiming for net-zero standards through passive solar principles, natural ventilation, and a strong indoor-outdoor connection with a natural play area.
While the project is not currently scheduled for construction and remains unbuilt, the resulting scope report and conceptual design serve as a comprehensive masterplan to guide future development and support the growing needs of the École Voyageur community.
