HISTORY

The Rossdale site is one of the most historically-rich areas in Edmonton. EPCOR consulted our design team with the intention of acknowledging this area’s historical character while creating a functional and efficient pumphouse for its utilities operations.

VISION

The building is a contemporary interpretation of a historical legacy. Located at the south end of the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant adjacent to the City’s river valley walkway system, the design anticipates the day when the entire Rossdale site will be opened to the public as a historical and cultural centre.

VIEWING THE FUTURE THROUGH HISTORY

The Pumphouse expands upon the site’s historical context. Signage and panels explicating the building’s role in the history of water treatment facilities can be found alongside the path and rest area adjacent to the Pumphouse. Some of the Pumphouse’s architectural elements, as well, echo the original 1900’s structure, which include its sloped roof, brick veneer, arched windows, brick detailing and the unique proportions of its frame.
