HISTORY

Edmonton’s local utilities provider, EPCOR, came to our team with the idea for a design that would bring their Project & Technical Services and Quality Assurance Laboratories under one roof. Located on Edmonton’s beautiful river valley in the historic Rossdale area, the site offers superior views and close proximity to nature.

VISION

Cutting-edge technologies, history, and the natural environment interplay in our novel design for EPCOR’s Water Quality Assurance Labs. Through deliberate and conscientious consideration of staff needs and the challenges particular to the unique historical site, our lab design merges occupant comfort and flow with the logistical demands of the labs’ highly-technical and specialized operations.

RESPECTING LAND AND NATURE

The site offered an interesting challenge to our design team; difficult to assess, the site had been contaminated by a previous development. Additional excavation and soil remediation ensured a safe and sustainable build that harmonizes all of the ideal aspects that the site has to offer. 

Daylight floods the building’s interior through a three-storey glass atrium, offering occupants gorgeous views of the surrounding river valley as they move throughout the building. Modernity and heritage meet in the building’s envelope, where classic brick cladding juxtaposes against an innovative high-performance curtainwall and sleek glass elements.
