HISTORY

PCL'S North American Headquarters is to be the home of PCL's Executive team and several other working groups. Located on the corner of 99th street and 56th avenue in Edmonton, Alberta, this important building is visually striking, heralding in modernity and redefining an austere industrial area.

VISION

The Headquarters demonstrates PCL’s position as a local and international construction leader while maintaining the humble and benevolent character of the company. The design meets PCL’s functional, operational, aesthetic and sustainability targets, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and efficiency in every aspect of their operations and affirming PCL as an innovator of their industry.

HUMBLE ELEGANCE

Simple, timeless, and non-institutional: the concepts that define the aesthetic mode of PCL's North American Headquarters. The building’s clean lines and understated colour palette juxtaposes with bright spots of colour and soaring elevation. A prominent glass atrium interrupts the building’s classic lines at its northeast corner, where its occupants can enjoy an unobstructed view of Edmonton’s downtown core. Inside the building, exposed concrete and a light, minimal style not only maximize available daylight, but express a modern and innovative sensibility.

LEADERSHIP IN SUSTAINABILITY

The design approach to the building's sustainability profile is holistic and flexible, which we implemented to achieve maximum potential for reduced environmental impacts. The project attained Canadian Green Building Council’s LEED® Gold Certification. A comprehensive set of strategies was employed in the sitting and design of this building to maximize its sustainability potential, including the use of recycled and regional materials and diverting of over 50% of construction waste from landfills, the use of all energy-saving LED light fixtures, and the reduction of domestic water use by 40% or more through water efficient fixtures. PCL has committed to at least two years of purchasing 70% of total building energy consumption as certified green power, on top of developing and implementing a Green Landscaping and Pest Control plan and a Green Housekeeping strategy.
